Frequently Asked Questions

What is a crane truck or HIAB truck?

A crane truck — also called a picker truck or HIAB — is a truck with a hydraulic crane mounted behind the cab. It can load its own freight, transport it, and then lift and place it exactly where it is needed, without a separate crane or forklift at either end.

What can Y2K’s crane trucks transport and lift?

Construction and building materials, heavy equipment and machinery, generators and transformers, rooftop HVAC and electrical equipment, sea cans and storage containers, palletized and oversized freight, and non-containerized port freight.

Can Y2K load, transport, unload and place freight?

Yes. Our crane trucks handle the complete cycle — loading at pickup, transport, unloading and precise placement at the delivery site, whether that is a construction site, a commercial property or a private residence.

How much can a crane truck lift and how far can it reach?

Our HIAB fleet offers reaches from 40 to 90 feet and weight capacities from 15,000 to 80,000 lbs. A 20,000 lb spreader bar, pallet forks and a 5,000 lb winch are available on request for specialized moves.

Can Y2K deliver HVAC units, generators and other heavy equipment?

Yes. Rooftop HVAC units, generators, transformers, electrical equipment and other heavy or oversized machinery are among the most common loads our crane trucks place.

What areas does Y2K’s crane-truck service cover?

Our regular service area covers Vancouver, West Vancouver, Burnaby, Richmond, Delta, the Tri-Cities, Surrey, Langley, Maple Ridge, Abbotsford and Chilliwack. Service to Whistler, Squamish, Hope, Vancouver Island, the Okanagan and other BC destinations may also be arranged depending on the shipment, equipment and placement requirements.

Does Y2K offer urgent, after-hours and weekend crane-truck service?

Yes. Weekend service and emergency after-hours service are available, along with hot-shot dispatch. All HIAB jobs are subject to a four-hour minimum, and booking in advance is the best way to secure a truck.

How do I get a crane-truck or freight transportation quote?

Call our dispatch team at 604-513-4810 or request a quote online. If a Y2K HIAB is not available for your date, your load can still be handled through our freight and brokerage department.
